His stand-up was never great, though it could be good. Chapelle's Show was great though he had other writers for that one, principally Neal Brennan, whose stand-up is quite funny.Gramsci wrote: Sat Sep 28, 2024 12:24 pm I’ve never seen him period. 92FM Gramsci,
Here's an older stand-up from him:
This was prime era.

Re: Dave Chappelle: The Closer
94In this one he seems more in character with Chapelle's Show. I wonder if he wrote this alone. This one is better, though.hbiden@onlyfans.com wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 2:29 amhmm, not as many laughs as i remember.Krev wrote: Sat Sep 28, 2024 9:12 pm FM Gramsci,

95the material is good enough on paper. I just don’t feel like he was into it.enframed wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 9:07 amIn this one he seems more in character with Chapelle's Show. Audience of tech bros and he barely mentioned his Asian family. Lost opportunity.
Re: Dave Chappelle: The Closer
96I didn’t watch his show until I’d already heard loads of great things about it, and what a disappointment it turned out to be. This was before all of his worst bullshit, too. At best, it was moderately amusing. Never laugh-out-loud funny.
The one bit from his standup that cracked me up was about how conflicted he felt re: Michael Richards’s racist meltdown as both a black man and a professional standup. “You can still win ‘em back, Kramer!”
Crap.

Re: Dave Chappelle: The Closer
97Hard disagree, I think he had some stand-up routines that were fucking fire until he got hooked on trans bashing. I don't like Neal Brennan.enframed wrote: Sat Sep 28, 2024 8:54 pmHis stand-up was never great, though it could be good. Chappelle Show fucking sucked in a lot of ways. There were some classic skits but the best shit was just Charlie Murphy telling stories. The net effect of the show was white guys feeling wayyyy too comfortable saying "NIGGARS!!!" which I think is why Chappelle ran away to Africa.Wood Goblin wrote: I didn’t watch his show until I’d already heard loads of great things about it, and what a disappointment it turned out to be. 98I saw him live before the show came on, and he was fucking hilarious.

99Hmmm, not “for me” I guess. I’m not big on Dice Clay kind of humour.Krev wrote: Sat Sep 28, 2024 9:12 pm FM Gramsci,

100I really wouldn't put him in the Dice Clay category. For one, Dave could be clever and insightful.
