Just this week while driving my daughter to school, I was checking out a new Guided By Voices song. Spotify did it usual drift of playing similar stuff after playing the GBV track. A weird track played, it sounded like it was perfectly on the grid using the Garageband drummer, but ran through "Lo-Fi" plugins. It had a dumb band name like I Do Karate or some shit. I skipped the track and said to my daughter that today's "indie rock" sucks. The next track was from another band I'd never heard of that sounded like Nick Cave fronting MJ Lendermen's band. It made no sense and it was terrible. Skip. Next song was a dumb band name with an "indie" looking cover and the song sounded like copycat GBV. I said to my daughter "Waaaaait a Minute. Is this fucking AI Music?"LuciousSandwich wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:09 pm You may or may not be a fan of Ted Goia's writing, but he has interesting things to say about Spotify being more about pump and dump than it is about music:

Also, this forthcoming book by Liz Pelly looks good https://lizpelly.info/book
Yup, that tracks. It’s congruent with years of life experience, as well as a number of things I’ve read coming from different vectors and disciplines.jimmy spako wrote: It shouldn't surprise anyone ultimately that we (musicians, creative artists) are just bait and alibi to these guys.
I guarantee you you could pay a kid a few hundred bucks on fiverr to crank out far more convincing fake indie tunes than whatever this AI model that cost millions to produce shits out.RyanZ wrote: Just this week while driving my daughter to school, I was checking out a new Guided By Voices song. I kept skipping songs and about 20 more songs in a row were the same shit: Copycats of lo-fi indie rock with dumb nonsensical band names and most of the song titles were the same title as the "album." I finally checked an artist profile on one of them and there was no bio or anything. I felt so creeped out by this experience.
Well, I was reading over on the Spotify community that this is indeed a thing many others are complaining about. So fuckin Sad.enframed wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 6:41 pm I mentioned this in another thread, and it happened again today.
I listen to podcasts on Spotify and today I got int my car and Spotify started up (it connects to the bluetooth automatically and plays) and it was a Joe Rogan show. I have not once ever listened to Joe Rogan on Spotify.
Doesn't someone here work there? Why the fuck is this happening? They padding his listens?
I'm about ready to move to Apple Music over this bullshit.
