Re: Rock singer-dome: Danzig vs Dio
12Dio is a "better" singer but I can't take more than one song's worth of that voice. I could listen to Danzig sing all day, at least on anything from the first Misfits recording through to Danzig IV. Dio also may have had better bands on a technical level, but I'd much rather hear The Misfits, Samhain or the original Danzig lineup.

Better fromtman? Danzig. Gotta give it to him there.
Y'all had better call somebody...losthighway wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 6:13 pm Dio is a better singer (love Rainbow and his Sabbath tenure). Danzig has more good records.

14Same goes for the first verse here....
I get the guy not being for everyone, but the idea that Dio is "Head..."/"Shoulders..." better than him as a singer is a stretch.

15As for what I say?M.H wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 3:01 pm Pint-sized egomaniacal powerhouses. Thinking today about their MANY similarities.
A few years back I woulda shilled for Glenn unhesitatingly, but I've really been getting into Rainbow and Dehumanizer of late which makes it a closer call for me; though I have also recently cracked Danzig 4 after 20yrs of writing it off as pretentious (it's great: I am idiot).
What say you?
You done snoozed on THE pint-sized powerhouse...
Re: Rock singer-dome: Danzig vs Dio
16I’ve always loved the pseudo-nostalgia indulged by David Lynch, The Cramps, and some of Glenn Danzig’s bands—that “nostalgia” for the 1950s as refracted through hazy childhood memories, when everything is mysterious; rockabilly coming through the speaker of a transistor radio; EC comics; and monster movies watched while half-asleep at 3:00 AM.
With The Misfits, it’s like Danzig took the Ramones formula but turned the dial from “Motown girl group” to “Sun Studios.”
Dio? Whatever.

Re: Rock singer-dome: Danzig vs Dio
17The Misfits in their original run made some of my favorite music ever, the singing was definitely a big part of why. I also enjoy the early Danzig records, Lucifuge in particular.
I don't care for the type of music Dio made. Even Black Sabbath became a regular heavy metal act when he joined. Seemed like the better human being? Still won't listen to his music.

20Rainbow with RJD: excellent
Sabbath first-run with RJD: excellent (including the badass Live Evil)
First two Dio records: excellent
Sabbath's Dehumanizer: not bad
If you're not a metalhead, I can understand the disdain for some of this stuff.
