At what point does it just become a gong..
It’s definitely a textural/soundscape mallet instrument more than an invert and overplay on metal songs cymbal.

Mostly I was kinda intrigued by a very attractive bronze-to-dollar ratio, and expect these are gonna go up in price soon

I had to move my pedals onto my bigger board and so I have a little more wiggle room per pedal. I put my Joyo AC Tone in place of my trusty OD-3 as my main dirtier/loudener and really liked what I heard—I’m a sucker for jangly-yet-dirty tones a la Weller et al). Now I’m wondering if I should look for a Tech 21 Liverpool V2, mostly for better build quality (I’ve had an AC Tone die on me in the past randomly) and for the speaker emulation defeat switch.

Should I go down this path? Or look for a different Vox-in-a-Box? Or suck it down and stick with the OD-3 that has served me well for so long?

(I’ve tried two other Vox-flavoured pedals in the past, Vox’s own Mystic Edge and the Tone City Black Tea, itself a clone of the Carl Martin AC Tone [no relation to the Joyo]. The former sounded great but had a real flabby low end, and the Black Tea didn’t really sound good at all and had a weird ambient noise I couldn’t dial out.)

I ended up going with the Vox Copperhead I have (nominally a MIAB). Bandmate recommended I scoop the mids on it, so that plus hitting the bright switch seems to equal jangly madness.

Definitely still keeping the OD-3 around though since there’s every chance I swap it back in. First band practice in a while, in our new practice space is Tuesday so this new setup will get a workout for sure.

Realisation! I will never play guitar in a band setting ever again. My frankly "too much" stereo setup of a couple of smallish tube amps is overkill for the bedroom, but I do love me some swirl. I'm seriously considering a sell-off/clear-out and bagging one of the smaller Roland Jazz Chorus amps, the JC-40 or JC-22, as an alternative.

Any good/bad experiences with either the 40 or 22?
