A good-cheap reverb unit
2For guitar or recording.
For guitar I'd say look for a used Holy Grail pedal.
For recording, look for a used Alesis Wedge. Those are suprisingly decent.

4Sometimes you can pick up a digitech reverberator xp400 cheap on ebay and they have a whole slew of reverb options. I have a bunch of reverb pettles, and effect racks (hence the name capnreverb), and like the reverberator. It looks like a whammy peddle. It was not a very successfull unit, and they discontinued making it. I think people expected it to be crazy like its whammy/space station cousins, and all it did was a good bunch of reverbs. Plus it has stereo outs!!!!
The Holy Grail is good, but it usually costs more and does not have the range of the xp400.
My favorite reverb is the midiverb 2 rack mount, and you can usually get an early midiverb cheap. Great stuff.
The boss reverb/delay pedal is good, but usually costs $100.

5If you can find one, the Boss SX-700 is a really excellent reverbaeration device. Balanced stereo in and out, with -10/+4 switchable operation. This was the only "studio" grade effects processor Boss ever made (as far as I know). I have used several reverb boxes such as the Lexicon MPX-1 and also cheaper units including the midiverb and some digitech stuff. This will blow the cheap guys away. Very realistic reverbs with a slew of useful parameters. You also have all the other wacky-wild effects to mess with (the stereo delay is great... up to four different delays each independantly pan-able) I've seen them go for around 75 on Ebay.
