It amuses me how knee-jerk I am about this stuff. Soloists always look fine with a floyd, it never looks out of place. But even on a strat I'm like eeehhhhh I dunno....acceptable if you play guitar in Iron Maiden or are EVH but otherwise....I don't love it.

But on a tele? Absolutely not. Bigsby or GTFO. A Jazzmaster could potentially look ok with one but who would do that?

On a Gibson? Punishable by death.

You're entitled to this belief as long as you admit that it's a purely stylistic choice, not a functional one. Bigsbys can be fun if you mount one or more strings in reverse so they bend up when the rest bend down, but it's an otherwise primitive design. Tele bridges are also kind of garbage, though I understand why people think they're critical to the Tele twang. I prefer the form factor of a Babicz or other well-designed Strat style trem, but nothing has the accuracy of a Floyd.

Yeah I would too. That looks great.

I think the Jazzmaster body shape is just so cool it's tough to make it look bad. You could build something like that for under a grand if you finished it yourself.

I can see how Bigsbys might be "primitive" but who cares about how old a design something is? It either does what you want or it doesn't. Gibson absolutely innovated with robotic tuners - they made existing tuning machines look primitive, but primitive kinda won out. Also the Floyd Rose will be 50 next year.
