312The deltalite is quite nice as well.penningtron wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 7:27 amUnfamiliar but it looks promising! Others on here have praised different lite models.

313Heather has these. Way better than I expected for their tiny size.

314I saw the Tape Op endorsement and was curious about them myself. I’ve been really into having a few different headphone and near-field monitoring options, so they look like they could be handy.

315They are a bit boxy sounding but for something ported this size that's going to happen. They have an almost Transmission line style port design to extend their low end so they punch below the belt a little. For something you can shove in a back pack and take to an Air BNB not too bad.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 2:08 pmI saw the Tape Op endorsement and was curious about them myself. 316+1. I guess it depends what you are going after. It might be interesting-sounding but id think youd have to roll off a ton of low end for it not to sound like buttholes.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 9:05 amProbably not the answer you're looking for but....plug it into a closed back cab.twelvepoint wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 6:05 am RMA: 12” speaker for an ampeg VT-22 that would be articulate and clean for bass. For folks unfamiliar, a VT22 is an ampeg V4 but as a 2x12 combo.
Almost all bass cabs are sealed or carefully ported for a reason. I think ive been told, possibly incorrectly, that the amount of excursion for those low freqs is dangerous for the speaker life and a sealed/correctly ported cabinet offers some protection by having air resistance. Regardless of whether or not thats true i cannot say ive ever seen an open-backed bass cabinet. Figure there is like a good reason for that.
But low volume for recording or quiet shows? Probably fine…but a heavy boat anchor to saddle yourself with for that kind of application (made worse im sure by adding evm-12l.
Re: Recommend me a...
317I am not an acoustic engineer but iirc part of the issue with (very) low end on open back cabs is that because of the less directional nature of low end info and the longer wavelengths, you get the air moving out of the back of the cab at certain frequencies “wrapping around” to the front and causing phase cancellation, eg loss of low end. This could be entirely wrong.

318Carol Kaye famously used a Super Reverb for bass a lot, so it can definitely give good sound, but in very specific instances as you note.Garth wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 11:33 pm But low volume for recording or quiet shows? I wonder if a decent used 1x15 wouldn’t cost much more than two new speakers anyways.
Re: Recommend me a...
319I’m asking this VT22 bass speaker question for a buddy of mine and I think he wants to just use an amp he already has as either a home rig or to supplement his current setup. Not entirely sure but the expectation isn’t that the vt22 is a primary rig; just better at being a bass amp than it is now. IIRC, the vt22 has some modest Jensens in it now.
Re: Recommend me a...
320Something like the deltalite 12s would work well and also help with the weight.
