Our dog Simon was at his doggie daycare (really just a house a few blocks away from us he's been going to a few days a week since he was a puppy) last Thursday when we got a text in the afternoon that they'd heard him yelp and then he wasn't moving his hind legs. My wife got him to the ER vet right away, and then she had to drive to the complete other part of the region 30 miles north to get him to a specialist hospital. After a neurologist saw him, they got him into surgery last Friday.
We got him home Monday, and he still haven't really been able to pee on his own, so we've been having to take him to our local vet twice a day to have him on a catheter. Between that, carrying him outside to shit, giving him pills (which he hates), and our normal stuff of having a very busy 19-month old kid running around, it's been a long, draining week. We've both been barely making it past 9PM before we can barely stay awake.
Thankfully, Simon is starting to show signs of improvement, we've seen some tail wags, he pedals his back feet when he's in the sling and "walking", and when he's sleeping on our bed with us in the evening he's made some kicks, wags, and toe movements while having a chase dream. All good signs, and the specialist thinks he should be back to normal within about 3-5 weeks at this rate.
