70s Gibson Thunderbird. Not a screaming deal, just in a condition sorta befitting its price. I wanted something in between the Peavey T-40, which I never use any more, and the Ovation Magnum, which is a fav but gets buried sorta easily, and landed on the Thunderbird. Just sick of the Peavey being my option for a rock bass, really.
It was either that or a refin 70s Telecaster bass, but the Tele I was looking at had very similar features to my Magnatone Hurricane. Plus I have a matching Firebird guitar from a few years earlier that I love, also in modded and repaired condition, so hopefully it works out. I had also been scoping out Warmoth parts, but for the money I just decided to put it into something that would hold value.
Gear has been a revolving door lately, which was needed but has been sort of irritating, though I have liked paring down and upgrading at the same time. So hopefully this one in particular will be worth 2-3 guitars and basses.

Um, once it's set up, it like, stays in tune? Was an unanticipated surprise.

1654Trashcan reverb, obvs.
This weekend I dropped a kiddo off at the mall, saw an 01 les paul special with humbuckers at guitar center for $779. It's got a players worth of wear on it, but no headstock breaks or weirdo paint or routes.....so I grabbed an epi SG I don't play all that often, a few pedals that I don't like/don't play/have multiples of, etc, and traded all of it in along with $90 and walked out with it.
Strung with 12-56, tuned to drop C. Heavy as a fuckin' boat, but I'm really happy with it.

1656If you want a black les paul with a stop tailpiece and thinned out body, look no further than the Les Paul 'Vixen'. As a smaller fembot, my spouse got one despite the name and I find myself enjoying it. I remember it being dirt cheap used

1658A Kelly 50w head. Basically a Selmer Treble n Bass but built better. I’ve wanted a TnB for aaaaages after playing my mate’s mk3 one. Beautiful rich clean tone with the channels jumpered, sounds incredible cranked. Should arrive tomorrow just in time for me to annoy my wife and daughter and dogs with all weekend.

1659Amazing score! I have a japanese clone of a selmer that sounds really nice, so I imagine the Kelly is a cut above. The wiring in those things is hiwatt-grade OCD.Nico Adie wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 5:29 pm A Kelly 50w head. Basically a Selmer Treble n Bass but built better. 1660Those seem badass. I have a Selmer croc style Mk I tnb and its a beautiful sounding amp. Not just for rock, but for anything. I also have a Selmer Thunderbird that is the weirdest amp I ever heard in my life. You made the right choice.
