I like GVSB. I saw Soulside last year and was outside smoking when I overheard Scott McCloud taking to some other dudes. His speaking voice is nothing remotely close to his vocals. It was off-putting.
Man, the lyrics on the new Soulside bummed me out. Great instrumental stuff, gorgeous production but duder is rhyming flower with power. His values are solid and his voice sounds cool these days but those ideas don't translate to great rock lyrics.

eephus wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 9:39 am Bernard is a great singer. you people are nuts

If you think he doesn't get the idea across better than anyone else would on those tunes, i don't really know what to tell ya

I read something about him once that his singing was so affected that it came out the other end as humane. Which rang true.
I was hoping I wouldn't have to fight this fight alone.
I’ll take it one step further:

New Order > Joy Division
I can't say that, for myself, but I also don't have any problem with it aesthetically

The Joshua Tree turns 40 in a couple years. Fingers crossed.

jeff fox wrote: Fri Aug 22, 2025 8:25 am And New Order is absolutely better than JD. I don’t care about importance or influence. I like SONGS.
I like songs too. Joy Division's songs are better than New Order's songs.

And add horns!
It was always meant to be horns, but they couldn't afford it, so Keef added the fuzzbox riff as a budget friendly replacement.

Think he means . . . don't shoot Mick Jagger and make the song an instrumental. Instead swap him out for Otis Redding (also a better dancer). And add horns!
Yes!
This also works with the Beatles:

I don't know, I always feel like Stones and Beatles covers wind up sounding like Brazil '66. Even when they shoot the singer. Sort of hokey and losing the feel...even when the performers are top tier.
