This is the dinner-tonight-guy.
He has emailed me a few other times this week, and every time, he puts those colons with a description of what he is doing physically at that exact moment. As if he is writing a screenplay. Is this wierd? Or should I find this charming?

that's a little weird rachael, and in most situations totally warrants a cancelation (in addition to "outtie 5000 g" or whatever) -- but considering how weird you are i don't think you should sweat it much

ok, that's a little over the top but i still think you should give him a chance. it's just dinner you know. by the way, where is he taking you for dinner?

my hope is that the dude is so charming, this slight weirdness is trumped. have a great date.

I wouldn't be charmed by that. It sounds to me like this guy is finding a way to emasculate himself through email, which is a strange accomplishment.
But I'm sure there are many cool people who don't come off well in electronic dialogues. In fact, I know there are. Maybe this dude is such a person.

I will earn my $10 and get a good Argentinian steak and some good bourbon. Then maybe he'll seem as swell as he did last weekend. Oh this world.
