No! Do not be of the apologizing for my melted face!
17" homemade hihats? They rule!

Is that better?
My half-slain face, she is so confused!

This may sound dumb but how do you machine cymbals down? Do you have any pointers - books or web page? It's a hard subject to search for since all I get are people bitching about drum machine cymbals.

a machine shop could do it for you.
You could ask a mechanic that does lathe work on Tractor Trailer disk brakes or any place that does salvage work for autos...
Or if you live in chicago, i would be glad to take them to work and see if one of the guys here would machine it down for you(but only if you trust the UAW with your cymbals).

But of course, a lathe operator.
Thanks - I have a cymbal or two I'd like to try this out with.

Paiste Alpha 20" Power Ride - right side crash.
Paiste Innovations 22" Heavy Ride - left side crash.
1 Paiste 2002 22" Power Ride machined down to 17" and 1 Paiste Alpha 22" Power Ride machined down to 17" = hi-hats.
Jesus with a sitck up his ass!! That's a crazy cymbal setup.
You guys left Rehearse America a while back, didn't you?
Just got a Surly Cross Check for X-Mas, so lots of riding and drinking coffee, and I guess repeating.
Cheers!

Some big-ass lathe I think.
I take my old cymbals to a local shop and he has a guy that does it.
Mind you it's not the most elegant machining, the edges are a bit too square (hell on sticks) but the result is quite pleasing.
Albini commented on how they sound way less harsh and more controllable then smaller hats. They sound like 14" hats with the tape slowed down.

You were right.
Finally it seems the particular cymbals were a big part.
My apologies.
