Built to Spill - Free Bird

They used to do this at every show.

devo's version of satisfaction gets my vote for best ever. it makes that crap bar-rock standard enjoyable, a task in itself. i'd like to think it irritated lots of stones fans when it was released.

This isn't my favorite, but just the other day I was telling a friend about Pete Townsend's live acoustic cover of Save It for Later. I haven't heard it in years, but I always dug it & remember it fondly.

I like the Bedhead/Macha cover of Believe.

I saw Sun City Girls at the Crocodile in Seattle years ago. They started one of their own songs which sounded suspiciously like "wish you were here," and at the appropriate moment someone in the crowd shouted, "so..." (the first word of the song). The crowd laughed, the band laughed... and, without missing a beat as they say, played a spectacular version of the pink floyd song, with the crowd literally screaming along to the whole thing. That's stuck with me.

Oldham's version of Big Balls is hillarious. And on the same series of AC/DC tributes The Denison/Kimball Trio's tribute to Back in Black(Blanc), where they play excerpt from Vivaldi's season on a Stooges rhytm is pretty innovative.

There's a few I can think of right away:

The Flock - Tired Of Waiting
Weasel Walter - Bohemian Rhapsody
The Bad Plus - something by Aphex Twin (who can remember the titles?)
Shellac - Jailbreak (further advertisement for that Skin Graft 7")

And another vote for Devo's Satisfaction. So good.
