I'm digging out my Mule tape tomorrow. I used to love it. We'll se if I still do. I remember thinking the bass was a little too over the top, and the lyrics being kind of retarded at times, but I still always liked Mule, despite these things.
Also, I love that Touch and Go and 1/4 Stick released tapes. I wish tapes were still released.

PW Long was great at T&G 25. I wish he'd played longer.
He played some Mule.
He played Now I Truly Understand. It was great.
It kills me to know that they regularly played house shows in my hometown when I was in highschool and I didn't know them then.

Agreed. My copy of the "Spiderland" cassette is now under lock and key.

From AMG:
P.W. Long first surfaced as the vocalist for the Michigan-based Wig (appearing only on the 7" Just Obscene and the indie release Lying Next to You), billing himself as Preston Cleveland. After the single's release in 1991, Long left to form the disastrously named Nigger Lover, eventually changing the name to N.L. Mule before finally deciding on the more succinct Mule.

Lucky enough to see Mule back in the day at tiny joint in a town they probably weren't really thrilled to be playing. They showed up late, drunk and looking like dogshit. God they were good though. PW kept stepping off the stage and nearly busting his ass.
The recordings were all a bit different from each other. The first one had good songs and was pretty funny (had a little comic book too). Wrung is heavy as shit (see The Roped and the Cuckold). If I Don't Six was smoother and sadder. NC!

Thanks for the heads up - also be sure to click through that site and grab the first Mule 7" at the link provided - one of my favorite 7"s of all time.
