Also there is a section where there was an old hotel(cant remember name)maybe old town? its got lots of record stores etc, food. Shows: Sadies at Lee's and No Dynamics at The Boat on Friday. I think there's also something going on at the Boat on Saturday, but I'm going to be at Lee's for Bettye LaVette. Sundays are the Wavelength concert series at Sneaky Dee's on College, which is pay-what-you-can, and there's usually someone good. I believe the city is also hosting 'Trail Of Dead and Sir Elton John this weekend. Grab a NOW or EYE magazine on any street corner downtown, go to one of many fine drinking establishments in Kensington Market (between Dundas and College abutting Chinatown at Spadina) and formulate a plan of action.
Other drinking spots: Sweaty Betty's, Sparrow, Crooked Star, etc. all on Ossington, Commie's Daughter around the corner at Dundas. The Local and The Inter Steer on Roncesvalles. Avoid the stinking Drake, but press on down Queen to either Mitzi's Sister or The Cadillac, where Atomic 7 are playing tonight at coctail hour, that reminds me.
Guitar stores: Capsule and Songbird, both on Queen; Paul's Boutique on Nassau in the Market.
Record stores: There is a panoply of music shops on Queen between, I don't know, University Ave. and Trinity-Bellwoods Park. Vintage, Rotate, Kop's, etc. Perambulate. Take the air. There's also She Said Boom and Soundscapes on College, and that place next to Honest Ed's just off Bloor. And more.
Book stores: Easily spotted out the windows of any of the afore-mentioned.
Restaurants: Go to any lively-seeming area, cover your eyes, and throw a rock. Go wherever it lands and instruct your server to surprise you.
Enjoy your stay!
