I know nobody 'round here really uses this as a measuring stick for success, and I don't either, but why weren't Silkworm a more popular band? It doesn't make any sense to me. I'm not saying I wish they would have hit #1 on the charts or anything, but it seems strange that even a lot of indie types don't even seem to be entirely familiar with Silkworm. They were excellent songwriters, and they were really a very... I guess you could call them a "complete" band, and they wrote some really catchy songs.

I don't know, I guess that's kind of my mini drunken rant. I think Silkworm are criminally underrated.

It's kind of like how no one really knows too much about any albums by The Band after the first two.

I voted CRAP, and I feel a bit CRAPpy for having done so since I know that some of the band post here, but since they (the band) experience almost uniform adulation here I don't imagine that one CRAP from me is gonna ruin any-body's day...and it would be CRAPpier to have voted CRAP without an explanation.

I'm almost certain that the fault lies with me, but I just don't 'get' Silkworm. I've tried and tried, but I'm not 'getting' it. It reminds me a lot of Buffalo Tom and Lemonheads who I don't 'get' either.

Band: Not Crap.

And I feel nothing but pity for Michael Dahlquist and his family and friends.

A contender for my favourite band ever. So great.

I'm going to risk the usual (and admittedly, justifiable) deluge of death threats to my PM inbox by talking about them yet again. Aside from a couple of very early tracks, I don't think they recorded a bad song. 'L'arje' is not very listenable because of the lousy recording but I don't think there are any clankers per se. Everything from 'His Absense is a Blessing' onwards is actually magical to these ears. The Kadane era took me longer to 'get' if I'm honest, now I appreciate it as much as the earlier records. 'You are Dignified' is a wonderful listen if anyone can get hold of it these days.

I'm going to assume the word you were looking for is 'condolences'.

"it'll be cool" made hell tollerable.

one of my favorite records ever.

"you are dignified", "developer" and "in the west" provide other beautiful soundtracks to certain places i've travelled through.

to be honest "libertine" is the only one im not totally into, but i love everything else.

my five favorite silkworm songs (usually) are:

roots
penelty box
garden city blues
sheep wait for wolf
and either insomnia or something hyper, though i cannot pick out of either.

totally not. ever.

With my band, we're playing in Lausanne this week end at a tribute to dead bands.
We will play Slow Nerves.
Cool song, great band.

Not Crap.
