One of the guys who lives in the house where we practice is an excellent noise artist who specializes in just that. We know a bunch of those guys all over town. And yeah, more often than not i view them almost as more performance artists than musicians, but that's not to say they're not doing cool things. But i've seen a bunch of noise artists attempt to introduce some standard of structure to their work and fail miserably, so it's that much more impressive seeing Health exhibit that much control over the noises they're making.

Noise is definitely a genre that demands the artist be evaluated on its own merits, since there are so many things that can be done with it, structure-wise.

There are parts that seem like I could enjoy them but then the robot dance party kicks in and I lose interest. I cannot pass judgement without seeing them live though. I am sure it is a more palatable experience than some songs on some website. At least I hope.

Noise bands are always better live. I think this is some sort of rule. If i had heard their album by itself i probably would have thought, "hey, this is cool enough," but my jaw wouldn't have hit the floor like it did at their show the other night.

Since i tend to assign the tag "performance art" to most noise acts i think much of the "performance" is lost on recordings.

i just found a 12" of "heaven." my wife says i'm obsessed with this song. full length lp is on order with the label because both local record shops said they can't get it.

i can't wait to hear it.

noise plus rock, as good as the sun of its parts. i hope i get to see them live sometime.

very not crap.

fuzzbob, i have to disagree with you that pop music is easy to write, it depends. maybe bad pop is easy to write. good pop isn't.
