I guess that I
do get bitten in the ass while squatting in the woods. I really need to work on my pissing-while-standing aim.

I had a job breeding mosquito's in college. That was not crap.
Nothing like seeing 1000 mosquite's sucking off the belly of an anesthetized rat.
In the world, I still have to say not crap. Fly's bug me more. Unless there are a TON of them, mosquito's are easy to deal with.
The best way (I've found) to keep mosquito's away from your area is to make a seemingly nice place for them to lay eggs (a shallow pool of still\stagnant water), and put mosquito egg killer in it. They will all use that to lay their eggs and none survive.
Incidentally, the reason why they're so bad this year is because mosquito eggs can lay dormant for several years. Since the past few years have been pretty dry, they've been left unhatched. Our wet summer has unleashed a stockpile of suckers.
That's what I got on mosquito's.

the mosquitos in India are the reason I can not donate blood or plasma. Since I go there so often (every 1.5 or so years) I'm a high risk candidate for triggering a malaria outbreak.

on my trips to africa i've found that the mosquitos there are super fast. they're like tiny jet planes - you lie there in your bed and you can't here anything, then all of a sudden you here this screaming little insect fly past your face, then... nothing.
in contrast, the mosquitos here in australia are like bomber planes. you can hear them slowly flying all around the room until eventually one lands on you. i prefer ours, at least you know where you stand with them.

These damn things are making me think about quitting cigs. I bathed myself in deet last night just to smoke a few cigs. Blech.
