barefoot and heel up. sometimes for quiet parts i'll go heel down. better control that way for the soft stuff.

it makes it harder to play "batter-off" this way...but everything else seems easier.

I'm not a drummer, but any drummer I know who doesn't play heel up is a crap drummer.

heel up. When I want to play the kick softly I either put my heel down or put my toe by the end of the pedal(below the beater). When I'm doing double bass parts I just slide my feet on the pedal, like everyone, then my heel is almost down.
I play with skate shoes, they're indeed the most comfortable.

Thought of making the argument that the apostrophe was indeed showing possession of the heel to the drummer; but I was sure after a few exchanges it would come down to it being in the wrong spot in relation to the "S" since this is an engagement among many drummers. Whatev.
