Actually, I downloaded a - Pro Shot - Feelies bootleg DVD from what's now dimeadozen.org about 6 months ago. Pretty good... from 1990 or so if I remember.

I didn't know the Feelies were back together... last I heard of them was Wake Ooloo... I kinda quit keeping up with that band after the 3rd CD.

Twin Tone is selling CDR's of "The Good Earth" for $15. No artwork though, but apparently they're full CD quality and not mp3 sourced.

The Good Earth is the only record of theirs I own. I don't get it, I guess.

The first proper rock show I ever went to was the Feelies opening for REM at the Felt Forum, NYC, 11/7/86. They were unbelievable...very very FAST and tight and totally mindblowing, especially to a 16 year old kid. (This is also when REM were at their creative peak and they were also amazing.) They closed with this cover of "I'm a Believer" that must have been over in about 90 seconds. Unreal.

Saw them again in 1988, this time headlining, and it was just as good. One of the best unheralded bands ever.

I liked the Feelies early singles and Crazy Rhythms a lot. They were terriffic live then (1981?) too. I have to admit that everything else I heard from them left me pretty cold, like there was so much care taken in making it that the sponaneous nature completely disappeared.

They had a song called "Roman Circus" I think, where Richard Barone would pound his chest with his fist to make a tremelo, and I thought that was a really good idea, though I have been unable to steal it effectively yet. I don't know if that was ever on a record, but I doubt it would be as good recorded as it was live.

Big Black used to do "Raised Eyebrows" live, and there is an early live cassette release that includes it, and a sort of tribute song called "Race Cars," but I haven't seen my copy in about 20 years, and I don't remember if it is any good.

So, not crap, based on liking them live in 1981, the Throbbing Gristle association, their early singles and Crazy Rhythms, but it ended for me there.

Erm, Steve, wasn't Richard Barone in The Bongos? I wasn't aware of any connection between the two bands

I'm also pretty sure The Feelies never had a song called "Roman Circus", unless it was one of their off-shoot bands.

Hey, guess what. The Bongos were the band I was thinking of all along, with the Throbbing Gristle and everything. I blended these two band together in my head. So crazy! I have made two bands into one band in my head!

So, except that it was a different band I was talking about for live, because I never see them live the Feelies, I really liked the Feelies early singles and "Crazy Rhythms." So, not crap.

So maybe I never heard any more Feelies songs.

Mark, is this "Roman Circus" song with chest-pounding? Is she good? Which band am I in, Mark? What city is this?
