Band: The Feelies
2It's funny that this is coming up around the same time as the PE C/NC, because I discovered "Crazy Rhythms" around the same time as "Nation of Millions," and both albums had a seismic effect on me--I'd never heard music like that before, and they both ensured that I'd never hear music the same way again. I can remember listening to "Crazy Rhythms" in the dark and being almost scared of what I was hearing. It still holds up. Whenever I hear the drums kick into full-gear on "Loveless Love" or "Moscow Nights," I still get that kind of roller-coaster feeling in my stomach. And what an amazing production job...
So, to clarify: Not Crap. And while you could argue that each album was a little bit less not-crap than its predecessor, they never came close to making a bad album.
As long as I'm geeking out here...I have a vague memory of reading an old Big Black interview where they talked about how they were thinking of covering that "whoa-oh-oh song by the Feelies," but they don't say which one. I figure they must've been talking about "Moscow Nights" or "Raised Eyebrows." Does anyone know if this ever came to pass? Does it exist?
Finally, I'm curious what made you decide to post this now, LAD. I ask because Citibank has been running a commercial lately that uses "Slow Down." I doubt you've seen it where you are, but maybe there's some sort of Feelies zeitgeist at work.

3great band
i really liked the feelies
very purposeful. i like all their records, _the good earth_ best.
when i saw them live, bill million would change guitars if he was the slightest, tiniest, eensy-weensiest bit out of tune. it was funny.

5"Crazy Rhythms" is a work of absolute fucking genius. And I only saw 'em once, but when I did they were brilliant.
So not crap I'm amazed anyone would even think to pose the question.

6I love The Feelies.
It's a shame there's probably not enough footage of them to put together a decent DVD as a reunion is highly unlikely (due to Bill Million's retirement following the death of his father).
Incidentally, does anyone know if the most recent incarnation of the Feelies/Trypes/Yung Wu/Speed The Plough conglomerate "Sunburst" is still going?

7I picked up about 20 albums in St. Louis over the weekend, and the Feelies' Time For A Witness was one of them. I found it used for $8. It is the first and only Feelies album I have heard, and I really enjoy it. From what I understand, they were a pretty consistent band, so I will give them a NOT CRAP vote. I will also be on the lookout for their other records, particularly Crazy Rhythms, hopefully at non-collector-scum prices.
matthew wrote:His Life and his Death gives us LIFE.......supernatural life- which is His own life because he is God and Man. This is all straight Catholicism....no nuttiness or mystical crap here.

8i have crazy rhythms and i've heard a bit from each of the subsequent albums. some of my favorite guitar playing is on that first record. catchy and interesting is all i really ask of guitars and that seems to have been the point of that record.
i picked it up a couple years back so maybe this has changed but i believe Crazy Rhythms is the only one of their records still in print. so obtaining it at an ok price shouldn't be too rough.

9A fine band, though their cover of "Everybody's Got Something to Hide" makes me cringe.
I really dig what I've heard of The Good Earth. Hopefully it'll go back into print sometime soon.

10Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love the Feelies. They happened to me in a very good moment of my musical education. Totally found them inspiring. Good Earth is soooo good. I head a great story about the recording of that LP. Will post it later.... when I remember it in total.
All of them.... sooooo good. Live they were 150 mph! Totally unreal.
I wish Wake Olo (spelling?)was half as good... but sadly...
