For a few years after the turn of the century I played poker sometimes with Rob Warmowski in the Tuesday night game. I always enjoyed his company. He was always a gentleman.
Fast forward to a few years ago and I was done with my career and looking for jobs all around and open to moving back to Chicago and he reached out to me with an incredible job lead. I ended up not following up, deciding it was a little outside my wheel house, but I was so appreciative because I didn't know him that well and he didn't have to do that for me.
Rob Warmowski was a 100% class act. His wit and intellect is missed. RIP, Whitesoxski.

I met Rob and Maureen a few times when they came here on their honeymoon in 2016, and loved them. After that visit, he opened a message with "As your parents..." Such a funny, lovely man. Your story about him offering the job lead fits my memory of the man's generosity and thoughtfulness. He was a brilliant correspondent, and his writing is treasure, carnival and insight - always recognisable. The first remark I remember reading of his was a riposte involving a time-travelling cruise missile. I'll repost an item put up earlier:
an appreciation. I also wanted to repost his Dick Dale interview, but the link I have is
now locked behind a password - if anyone can find it elsewhere, please put it up.
Edited after memory sent me on an email trawl.

I don't know if anyone else got this email/bandcamp check in yesterday, but, apparently FM Grabskis "Teeth" has been seeing some sales(interest?) from France lately .

Today marks two years since we lost Warmowski.
I stumbled on a bunch of public playlists he made over the years on Spotify and every now and again, I'll give them a listen. There aren't a lot of folks who might follow up Michael Nesmith with Gang of Four, but Rob was, and we're all better for it.

I have no idea why and how, but I thought of Amanda a couple of days ago. I am not sure if that was a dream or I was just daydreaming about her, but I thought of her and I remember I had a big smile on my face afterwards.
I was never close with her, she even called me a creep numerous time (dunno why), but that girl was fun as hell. This world needs more people like her, not less.

Just the other day I was rummaging around in a stack of old CD's from past studio clients and Califone rough tracks and premastered Orso stuff I worked on and my (I thought) long lost copy of Rob's San Andreas Fault record was in there. Man, was I happy to find that.
Salut! Warmowski! You cantankerous goofball. You'll always be a member of the Perishable family...

I wasn't on fb when Jake passed, but a few days ago stumbled upon a tribute Calvin (forget his name on here..) wrote and it hit me hard. While part of me doesn't blame him for wanting to check out, and that was right before dismal lockdown shit, I do think about him quite often in the sense of "oh.. so and so is putting out a new record or collaborating. That's cool, but I wish Jake were around to hear that, he'd be happier than anyone.." Fucking sucks, he was just too nice for this world..
.....
Jesus it's been about 10 years since John Grabski crossed our paths, and then was taken by cancer 6 months later. Still remarkable what he was able to do in that time span.

I was thinking about Jake again last night. AS I do. He was a strangely great friend. I owe a lot to him.
