I think you're right.
I'm probably confusing Longarm with F.O.R. and maybe with Smashy Smashy.
Gentry is kind of hard to keep track of, he's always getting new shit.

You're like a walking Gentry atlas.
Maybe we should stop hijacking this thread.

the last three shows I was at in may, peter had the mig-60 and gentry did have that gigantic sound city head. they're all using old kramers now as well. gentry has the fancy 650 and peter and curtis were switching back and forth a couple of times with the 450.
I think peter and curtis used the migs on lumber, his music man got jacked, but I could be wrong. ap you said "we" so you probably know better than I do.

I have a MIG 100U. It has the most God awful, cold and screechy and brittle overdrive ever. I'm going to try and mod it to original jcm800 specs, and probably try a set of JJ tubes in the power amp section.

well, we've bought 6 MIGs directly from Sovtek in St Petersburg, and they were all like that - the overdrive was nasty. And tehy all sounded very different from each other. Like 6 totally different amps =) I've been told, that modding it to 2203 specs helps a lot.
Oh, and I don't know, may be the New Sensor used to "fine tune" the amps upon their arrival to the US

The 50 watt Mig, that I had over ten years ago, seemed to me to sound a lot more like a Fender. It had 6L6's in it, which could explain that.
It sounded great, didn't cost much, and was well built. Almost all of them seem to be well built internally, but later models have some cheesy bits on the outside - switches, plactic shaft pots, etc. It's well worth your time to get one and just replace that stuff when it goes bad, if you're handy that way.
The only reason I sold mine it because I wanted to go back to a combo, but here I am again, these days, with a head and cab. I've thought about picking up another, but I don't really gig much anymore and I already have 3 amps, so that probably won't happen.
With Ebay in the picture, why not get one, try it out, and if you don't like it, list it again? For the cost of shipping, you get to try it out for as long as you like.
I would stick with the lower watt models though. I hear the 100 watt model isn't as useful of a beast.

I just got a sovtek mig 60 off of ebay. I will tell you how it sounds compared to the other four my friends have.
