I think all those bands were channeling Berlin era Bowie, especially knowing Disappears covered Low a few years back.
Just got hip to FACS. Pretty cool, but just a little monochromatic for my tastes. I suppose that's part of the plan.

re: Chrome, "New Age" has a clear echo in Skinny Puppy's "Rash Reflection" (and also in "Far Too Frail", I just noticed).

Staying with Skinny Puppy, the first track on Too Dark Park ("Convulsion") has a drum intro seemingly lifted from Hounds of Love (with the sample and everything).

Probably not a steal so much as a generic punk progression but I immediately made this connection.
