Young Bands That You Do Not Know

Alright, here are my choices of bands that I've gotten into this year that aren't horribly well known.

Snack Truck -- http://www.snacktruck.com/ -- pretty amazing noise rock duo. Both members are really nice guys, Nate's one of the most insane drummers and Matt isn't too shabby on guitar. In addition Matt plays a Travis Bean which should endear him to members of this forum.

Ultra Dolphins -- http://www.ultradolphins.com -- amazing three piece featuring Nate from Snack Truck as guitarist/singer. Kind of remind me of Frodus somewhat. They don't have any mp3s linked from their site . However, they do have a CD released that was recorded at Inner Ear.

Behold the Arctopus -- http://www.beholdthearctopus -- really fucking insane technical prog metal stuff, also featuring a Warr guitar. If you're into the whole tech prog metal instrumental thing then this should be your cup of tea. When they played at my house people kept asking me, "WHO THE FUCK ARE THESE GUYS?!?" Definitely check these guys out live if you're in the New York area.

The Friendly Bears -- http://www.bathotaxe.com/bears.htm -- A really amazing avant-jazz/punk/metal/noise band from NYC. They have a split release with Infidel?/Castro! which is the noise project of Collin from Behold the Arctopus.

Gone Done Wrong -- No URL, however their latest release has been glued to my CD player. Features an ex-Still Life person or two. I'm not really into the songs written by the Still Life guy. The majority of the songs are written by Melissa who is an amazing songwriter. If you like stuff with a slight country edge and the occasional pedal steel, then you'd probably dig this.

Yokophono, the ultra dolphins are pretty great, i think i found some of their stuff on epitonic.

Also, i didnt realize there was an ex-still life band... if you can find out what member it is i'd really like to know. I finally saw them a few months ago, it was so weird seeing my favorite emo band open up for cursive... very sad.

Interesting sidenote, they just added a new guitarist for some reason, and they played some new songs. In fact, they only played one song from "Angry Heads" and one from Madness and the Gackle. Anyway, my band plug:

they arent new, but they were (i think) the only other band on still life's label. GlassCraft. Muy awesome.

Volta Do Mar (www.voltadomar.com) is great, thats the only newer band i can think of that hasnt been mentioned.

I'm sure most of you have heard of these bands (and many may despise them).

Danm, not sure who it is. I remember hearing a lot about Still Life way back but never really heard much of their stuff to tell you the truth. I know of Gone Done Wrong as my roommate has put out stuff by Melissa who is in Gone Done Wrong. I know at one point it was Melissa and three other guys and now it's down to Melissa and two other guys. I'm not sure who all was in Still Life.

Eitherway, not having heard Still Life but knowing that they fall into the realm of emo/screamo as much as I hate pigeonholing, I think Gone Done Wrong is not really up the same alley. The focal point in the band is definitely Melissa's songs. I think people want to throw the tag 'alt-country' on it due the use of banjo and pedal steel to add additional instrumentation to the songs but I'm not sure I really think that's a good label either. That's cool that you like the Ultra Dolphins stuff. If you dig them definitely check out the link for Snack Truck's mp3s at mp3.com on the Snack Truck site. Like I said, Nate who plays guitar and sings in Ultra Dolphins plays drums in Snack Truck and his drumming ability constantly floors me.
