Based on your description (comparing to GBV), I think I need to try to listen to NOFX again. My most recent impression of them was that they were a less sucky but still not good version of blink-182 (or, probably more accurately, blink-182 is a more sucky version of NOFX).

The Offspring. But I am wondering why fellow travelers Pennywise, Bad Religion, and Blink 182 weren't included.

As far as NOFX, The Decline is a fantastic song/album(?), and they have a couple other songs I genuinely like. I enjoy a Rancid track or two here and there, mostly out of nostalgia.

They are the "meh" band for me out of this list. I don't hate them but am just not interested. "Story of My Life" is a microcosm. I like plenty of three chord rock songs. I like plenty of three chord rock songs played with only open chords. And in theory I should be able to relate to the lyrics of that song. But it's nearly five minutes in length. I lose interest after about two minutes. They have a lot of songs like that.

Pennywise = I forgot they existed
Bad Religion = I thought they are a little less sucky than the bands mentioned

This is a more correct lineage.

It's funny to accidentally compliment nofx by mistaking GBV for a bad band.

The Offspring have some galaxy-tier shit-songs but their average album track was fine. Social Distortion sounds like worse versions of 'fine' Offspring songs.

Social Distortion might suck, but they're not Offspring-level suck. Offspring were basically an old Good Charlotte.

Social Distortion started as a fairly cool, LA punk band. Almost like a popper Adolescents or something. Mommy's Little Monster is cheesy and kind of cool. Their country fused hits brought all the Mike Ness to the forefront in musical presence and packaging and the guy just seems like a tool. I remember as a teen we'd watch Another State of Mind, the tour documentary of Youth Brigade and Social D and just laugh and quote all of Mike Ness' cringe inducing moments.
