If you always suspected that Ride would be amazing if their records were played at 1/3 speed then you'll love them.

I wish, i don't know that many musicians into what I'd want to do, considering all i really know is vocals and a bit of guitar/drums

Jesu is awesome, I'd assume i'd need ear plugs to see them live, their album is really loud

I was just about to say get some SLEEP records. 'volume 1' is a bit cack but "Sleep's Holy Mountain" is one of the defining records of it's type. Their swansong "Dopesmoker" however is just plain brilliance. I seem to have recommended this album several times on this board but i really can't endorse it enough. Slow, long, heavy, awesome.

Oh if you like Holy Mountain you gotta get DOPESMOKER. Too good.

I have been listening to the OM album near constantly since i got it about 2 months ago. Very nice. Not the greatest album i've ever heard by any means but it's kept me going a while now. It's worth it alone for the photo of them (Al Cisneros and Chris Haikus) on the back of the sleeve. I hear reports that live, they 'out-loud' even the likes of Sunn 0)) et al. Can't wait for them to come over here.

Thrones--Joe Preston (Earth,High On Fire, Melvins, SUnn O))) )...Double Neck bass attack, with fuckloads of effects and drum machines.

What's more, Joe was in a band called THE WHIP with Jared and Scott of KARP (who are also righteous)...they were fantastic, but they only recorded a seven-inch and then Scott the drummer died in a boating accident. Fucking tragic.

There's a really great local band (chicago) called WHITE/LIGHT...they do bass/guitar heavy drone improvisations...it's the mighty Matt Clark from Pinebender/Joan of Arc (he also helped build Electrical right?) and Jeremy Lemos, a fucking sweetheart and a heck of an engineer. I think they have an album coming out on Rebis soon?

This may also sound somewhat ridiculous, but I think the first LAB REPORT album should go down some day as a sweeping doom-noise album. I recently revisited it (hadn't listened to it since high school), and I was shocked at how much it resembled the more experimental SUNN O))) material...and that album came out in what 93? 94?

There's also SEA OF TOMBS...a one off between Bill Skibbe, Jessica Ruffins and Mario Rubucalba...that's a monster of a stoner/doom record.

Also some of Kevin Drumm's stuff is right up that alley, and I think Oren Arambarchi's recordings would be a valid recommendation.

yay!
