Yay, I guess.

What a clusterfuck.

Yeah, WTF? Yankees say - "we won't talk to you" because you fucked us out of the Texas money by opting out, and you are a bad man because you tarnished the World Series with your selfish actions. ARod (through his agent) says "to talk to me you need to offer 10/$350M." After 2 days of Free Agency, Arod pulls the rip cord, dumps his agent (or at least ignores his advice) and goes crawling back to the Yankees? And the Yankees agree to deal with him on a 10/$275M contract? But Boras can't be involved? WTF? What a freaking soap opera.

I am sure the Yankmees and Pay-Rod will spin it so Boras looks bad - Arod wanted to retire a Yankee, it means a lot to him to be involved with the most famous club in Baseball, the Yankees are glad the greedy agent got his....

And now the Yanks have more than a quarter of a billion dollars tied up in this guy for the next decade. He will probably make a hell of a DH in 5 years or so....

Nice offseason drama.

You know, even as a Red Sox fan, I thought it was an awesome move by the Yanks to say, "Oh you don't want to play for us? Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out." This makes me lose that tiny bit of respect I choked down for them.

So everyone is going to say it was brilliant because the Yankees held out and kept the price down, but Scott Boras (who hasn't been fired, and is still Arods agent) will collect his check, and the Yankees just signed a guy to play 3rd base until he's 41, lost 21 million in subsidies on the contract from texas, and upped his salary.

I think 5 years from now he's DHing.

Dude, the sox may lose Lowell to the yanks as well... theo tricked them into taking an aging Johny Damon, but Lowell has much better potential to hold up over 4 years than Damon did :(

21 mil to the yanks is like $5 to the average person at a blackjack table

If the Yankees do get lowell (and I doubt they will, there are reportedly 4 teams offering the 4 years that he wants) his hitting numbers will automatically take a hit I'd think. He RAKED the monster all year, Fenway is just a park that's better suited for his swing. If I'm not mistaken, the new Yankees ballpark will be the same dimensions as the old one, a lot more fly ball outs to left field for lowell as opposed to in fenway.

Plus isn't a good chunk of his value monetarily due to the fact that he was such a good 3rd baseman? He hasn't played a single game at first in his big league career, is that an adjustment he'd be willing to make? Who knows, I guess we'll find out before or around the time of the winter meetings.

And I love lowell, I would give him a standing ovation when he comes back to fenway regardless of whether or not he's in pinstripes. Dude's a class act and if he wants to go strictly top dollar on what's likely his last big/longterm contract than godspeed, he's earned it.
