It's always been my assumption that the opposite is actually true. Thicker, heavier cymbals are more rigid, and will therefore not vibrate as well at lower frequencies leading to an apparent emphasis of high frequencies. Maybe my physics is fucked up but it seems to be true based on experience.

I have some 14 Zildjian Giant Beat hi hat cymbals that are heavy as fuck, and make more of a clomp clomp clomp sound than a chk chk chk.Any of y'all know of a reasonable brand that makes a reliably lighter sounding 14 hi hat? I'm content to shop, I just tend to buy my cymbals off of Ebay so it's a bit of a crap shoot.Thanks.

So, I bought a hammered 20 ride for my drummer yesterday. It's medium heavy, really bright (which is nice), the bell on it is spectacularly loud, supposedly it's made by UFIP (although there is no brand name of any kind on it), and it's greyish/chrome-coloured, not ochre/yellow like most cymbals. I've never seen a cymbal that's not yellow, wtf is up with that? Not the best pics ever, but:

I have a pair of 13" Zildjian New Beats I'll sell to someone here for real cheap: they are medium bright and very cutting. Can provide recorded examples.I'm keeping my eyes open for a 14" or 15" set of something thin and low in pitch. Something along the lines of the K series. I know very little about Meinl, Paistes, & Sabian hats. Anything I should consider?

I may have heard those before.. I'm trying to remember. I'm definitely not into the hats with the rippled bottom cymbal: too trashy and loose. I would've probably remembered that. It'd be nice to not have to bite the $350-ish bullet that are Zildjian Ks, but it might come to that.

I need a pair of loud and sturdy, medium-priced and readily available hi-hats, and a crash cymbal and china of the same description. Recommend away please.

Very dark cymbals- thin and trashy in a good way.

Anything I should consider?I have a set of Paistes that I spent a lot on for some reason...they're definitely thin, I'm not experienced enough to know if they're low in pitch. But I've had many 'real' drummers compliment them. If you wanna try them out or even borrow them for a bit let me know.

I had them when we played at Kitchen Sink. The top and bottom cymbals look pretty much identical.
