The quality of the stuff matters too, if it doesn't put you back too much $. Good fats like unprocessed lard, grass fed ghee, organic oils. You are what you eat, and what they eat too so grass fed, pasture raised lean meats. Pasture eggs, which taste better and have a tad more protein, etc.Eat a fuck ton of greens. You especially need them if you're eating all that protein. Also, I've said it before on here and no one likes to hear it but the super malty hoppy beer revival is death. If you must drink while doing this stick to a glass or two of dry red wine.

So you gotta give your guts something to mash. I have a suspicion that losing weight might actually be easier in winter since you burn calories maintaining your body temperature**.For strict dieting you're better off not going overboard with exercise*, because it's too much to handle at once. Shed the excess pounds first, then reintroduce exercise. If you get more into weight lifting down the line the necessary diet for that will look very different from a fat burning diet!*not counting a 30 minute walk after dinner or whatever.**I have also heard of taking a cold bath before bed for this reason, though I haven't gone that far!

Ike wrote:Maybe obsessively eating from 10PM to 2AM might have to go, boo hoo.Yeah, I had to stop this too, which is a shame because I always liked the midnight eating. I quit soft drinks years ago because they're just liquid sugar, and I also replaced the beer with water at gigs. No more pies or fish & chips or apricot chocolate chip cookies either. This is how it's gotta be since I'm aiming to lose weight, not just maintain it, which means I have to eat less than enough for a while.

Yeah I've cut the carbs out almost entirely, occasional small amounts of rice or pasta, virtually no bread although I do have the porridge and I haven't eliminated fruit, I might have an apple or an orange a day, no juice. No refined sugar, no artificial sweeteners. Chew on a celery stick for a snack instead of making a PBJ.And lots of cabbage. Cabbage with chili and lemon juice is nice to me and I can om-nom a big plateful. I use cabbage in place of rice or potatoes. I'm not going hungry but I have consciously eliminated the mindless snacking.

I should make more use of cauliflower. Now that I'm committed to making separate meals for me and the rest of the family, it frees me up more to eat what *I* want. Kim chi with cauliflower rice sounds like a winner.

Even alcohol starts to fuck with my insulin levels pretty bad if I don't have a meal lined up to balance things out.Since I moved in I've been doing fried potatoes and onions with eggs and sometimes leftover dinner meat in the am with a glass of milk or v8. and in the evening usually something like brown rice with chicken and broccoli or canned spinach. If greens not available then black beans.Lots of canned soup. And whole fat plain yogurt too for the probiotic effect. Helps to reculture your gut / digestive ability if yer like me and get frequent heartburn. Definitely noticed a difference with that since last winter. Would've been even more effective if I didn't drink so much whiskey in the interim. Was burning a hole in my stomach for a little while there.. but I've moved past that too now. Should probably start buying some of that diet yogurt and see if I can get my usual gauntness back before summer is out. I can't just not eat... or can I. hmm

"He said, the trouble with the world was . . . " She had to stop and think."The trouble with the world was," She continued hesitatingly, "that people were still superstitious instead of scientific. He said if everybody would study science more, there wouldn't be all the trouble there was.""He said science was going to discover the basic secret of life someday," the bartender put in. He scratched his head and frowned. "Didn't I read in the paper the other day where they'd finally found out what it was?""I missed that," I murmured."I saw that," said sandra. "About two days ago.""That's right," said the bartender."What is the secret of life?" I asked."I forget," said sandra."Protein," the bartender declared. "They found out something about protein.""Yeah," said sandra, "that's it."
