Ok it's more of a 9/11 allegory, but we all know that was done by Iraq, duh.

I understand what an allegory is. You're beginning to get on my internet nerves.

Code Is Almighty,
I think my post was brought on by your avatar. Apocalypse Now. Great film. Great statement about Vietnam. I remember the first time I saw it. But that was not during the Vietnam war. It would have been strange if it had been. In my mind war films always have a certain distance from the moment. A certain nostalgia (I know this is not a great word to use).
Today it's like we're nostalgic for the moment while we're still in it.

How many times have you stood at the Blockbuster deciding on the evening's entertainment, only to realize about 75% of it is this war??
Flight 93(serious) Cloverfield(glamorized), World Trade Center even War Of The Worlds, that felt like 9/11, Babel, Syriana, Valley Of Elah, Redacted, All the various documentaries, even a lot of the stupid horror stuff, Hostel.

I guess it makes me feel really frustrated and helpless. As a citizen my option is entertainment, whether it's frivolous or informative. I know there are ways to get involved and make a difference, and that people are dying for this every day. But what a cynical time we're in to have gone this far, where we will entertain ourselves with a war as it goes on.

I'm not sure that I agree with you. The Great Dictator, The Long Voyage Home, Foreign Correspondent, Sergeant York, Wake Island, The Invaders, Watch On The Rhine, and Since You Went Away were all nominated for best picture between 1940-1945 and dealt with the war as subject matter. I think it's natural that the films being made reflect whats happening in the world.

Here's a decent list of WWII films made by year.

I guess you're right, we do have to reflect what concerns us. I think maybe what bugs me is the stuff like Hostel and Cloverfield. Glorifying the violence.
It just feels like it's gone on so long. It starts to get a bit Twilight Zone-ish.

Yea, 300 was another one. The 'Individualists' vs. the 'Persians'. I liked the film but that bugged me. Even stuff like Transformers... shock and awe.
I'm Canadian and we're more laid back over here I guess. I do think the USA is the greatest though! Bush not so much. But even more than Bush it's the bloody media machine.

While no doubt re-electing the fucking fraud that is Nancy Pelosi. Way to go, SF! Making empty gestures of rebellion since 1966! (I once heard her yell the rebuke "YOU'RE NOT MY CONSTITUENTS!" at anti-war protesters outside her home.)
