Partner got a wonderful job offer in Portland. Not wonderful enough to help me achieve my dream of being a stay at home dog dad, unfortunately.
I've been working admin at a mental health facility with a mind to transfer to case management or peer support.
Rolling the resume in glitter is such a chore.

To put a cap on a very difficult week, I just got an offer. I spent all day assuming the worst, so I teed up a bunch of applications just in case and took a couple of calls from people hiring.
Some very strange things happened today, though.
- I got a message from a guy who I know tangentially through the industry. We chatted a bit on video. He was looking to hire a subcontractor for his consulting company. He had a guy who left for a full-time job, since he was getting married and wanted something more stable. The job he got? The one I just got a rejection for earlier this week.
- I got a call from a recruiter later in the day. Turns out, we know some of the same people in the industry. He had placed an old friend of mine at a company a few months back. That company? The one that I just got an offer from. Guess who my manager will be? That old friend.
I'll be signing the paperwork over the weekend. Good luck to you all out there. And again, please don't hesitate to reach out for help, ranting, advice, whatever you need.

Trust me: as bad as it seemed I know people in your shoes who've been at this process for over 6 months now.

I would go see Rolling The Resume In Glitter every single time they played.
(With any luck, they would walk onstage looking like Roxy Music...)

I can't begin to imagine the self-importance of anyone insisting upon a process of over 6 months to vet a candidate, for anything. It's fucking mental.

Oh I just meant 6 months of job searching overall, but nothing would really surprise me at this point.

Had a recruiter screen last Friday at a company I interviewed with 2.5 years ago but didn't get past the hiring manager, but this time a former manager who now works there gave me a referral. Hiring manager interview was on Tuesday and seemed to go well, well enough that now they're sending me an Excel assessment to do in a couple hours tomorrow.
I actually still had the Excel assessment from last time, so used that to get a little practice in as I haven't been doing anything in Excel for over 6 months and am definitely a bit rusty, but as I said before, for my level of role these are usually just proving you can use v-look and various if formulas (sum if, count if, max/min if, average if, etc) and pivot tables so they can make sure you're not totally talking out your ass.

Awesome, Chris. Any practice is good practice. Back in the day when everyone I knew professionally worked at Groupon, I would start my interviewing there. They had a pretty rigorous process, so it was a good place to shake the rust off.

If there were more people like you, I wouldn't need a job!
From what it looks like, most jobs in my line of work are unionized. The wages are much, much higher than what I currently make. So I just gotta get into one.
