i nominate birmingham alabama. my experience begins with broken down van 3 days into a 30 day tour. the AAA guy was a complete racists making it out that we we're lucky a bunch of _derogitory word for african americans_ did not rob us blind and shoot us, same thing comes from the mouth of big, fat, sweaty, mechanic. he swore loud and often, that is a good quality of mechanic, plus he'd clutch his remaining hairs in utter frustration at the sorry state of our vehicle and window of time we placed on him. so, about 9am, me, little guy grows tired of buddy holly jokes and crappy day time tv, sets off on foot to find a post office and have a look around the offerings of "downtown." after a walk under a freeway, through a field of little pricklies, i find a very deserted and closed up downtown. it is like zombie movie. i did not find a place to buy a bottle of water for almost an hour, and remember very few people in passing. i did get to the post office though, and the mechanics fixed $867.00 worth of rock van, the show was canceled and the club treated us and the other bands like shit, we forgot we booked a show??? the pa isn't turned on. wtf? that happened a lot we later found out. so crappy club sends us to the nick, sure they are dying to have bands roll up on them and offer to play that night? wtf? but the folks at the nick, very cool, they apologized for crappy club and said that happens more than they care to admit. we had a drink on the house and got the fuck out of dodge.
dayton oh, seedy town indeed, good bands though, seedy town.
gary indiana, i feel unhealthy just driving through that part of the world
phoenix az, plastic feel, waste of human resources
las vegas nv, the earth should just fart that place out.

Any opinions on Fort Wayne, IN? I'm considering a job there. I've only driven through.

Atlanta. I endured this place for four months. I thought I was going crazy I hated it so much. I was gonna list reasons but that would fragment and compartmentalize the absolute solidity of the miserableness of this shithole.
I was in Atlanta last spring, and I personally found it so shitty it was funny. In the neighborhood around the Underground mall, a lot of the drug dealers took a liking to me, and even tried to sell me stuff. I bought a headband that made me look like the tennis player guy in
The Royal Tennenbaums.
I would think it was shitty too if I had hung around Underground.

Las Vegas.
"Vegas" is the most depressing city on the earth. It's the pits. I would rather die than go there ever again. It is a magnet & magnifying glass for the worst human traits.
I think I've posted nasty things about it elsewhere here. So I'll stop now, but how did you make something so horrible America?

Fort Wayne Seems like a nice town, the Hi-Fi have a family that used to take care of us (let us play in there kitchen, fed us, got us drunk) there, they were some of the nicest people I have ever met...

Are you a shut-in or blind?
DC is not only one of the scariest places I've ever been, but half the city is slummy enough to make Baltimore look like a Swiss villa.

One word gentlemen: Gentrification
It's happening rapidly in both cities- perhaps twice as fast in DC than in Baltimore.
Still, DC at it's scariest (think 1989-1995 in my mind) was worse because there were gangsters and crackheads walking around and the city was in far worse shape than Baltimore is now.
Baltimore's got gangsters and junkies. DC Crackheads are genuinely scary. Baltimore Junkies would rather sleep in the park or suck cock for $10- and you can scare them off by yelling at them.
In addition, Baltimore has a significant middle class- Something DC doesn't have (and the gentrification isn't making it any better..).

The notion that junkies in Balto are sluggish and affable and their bark is worse than their bite, or that there's no middle class in DC are just silly. I think the real difference between the two cities is simpler than that:
Baltimore residents salivate at any and all opportunities to put down DC.
DC residents never even think about Baltimore.

You make it seem like that's a bad thing.

Why would you?
