The crash was the worst part. I could probably get used to the hats, I like low-pitched hats..

I don't believe stainless steel would work with a pickup. I'm pretty sure it's nonmagnetic.

The drummer in my old band had a Meinl Byzance 20" crash & 22" ride (I think they were both 'Dark's). I auditioned a bunch of Byzances while hi hat shopping recently. I think both of our conclusions were the same: they sound pretty dark and interesting for about 5 minutes, then a little harsh after awhile. He got rid of his and now plays all Sabian HHXs.I think the Meinl Classics are their cheaper line. I haven't looked into them closely but I wouldn't expect much.I ended up going with 16" Sabian SR2 hats. They're 'recycled' cymbals and they sounded better than a lot of stuff twice the price. There's an old thread on them, but it doesn't have a lot of info. I would check those out if looking for cheaper cymbals.

What's the verdict on Meinl cymbals? Crap? Not crap? I'm interested, well, my drummer is interested in this one:http://www.cymbalsdirect.com/Meinl-Clas ... /c16pc.htmHe wants the 18 version, if that helps anything.

I had a Meinl Byzance 19 medium crash that was probably the worst sounding crash I've had and lasted the shortest before cracking. I kinda thought it was a fluke, but who knows, it was dull as shit.

B8 Pro 'Fusions' were the first hats I owned. I kept them for along time for more aggressive types of music and would often pair 1 side with a New Beat. They are loud and abrasive, though definitely not 'musical'. Better than ZBTs, though..

Try http://mycymbal.com. You can listen to the exact cymbal(s) for sale. They were out of 14" hats last time I checked, but hopefully they'll get more in.You could always just buy 2 cymbals as they don't categorize the SR2s beyond weight. A Med/Med or Med/Heavy pair is a solid combination.
