C'mon fellas, enough name calling.
Marsupialized, I like reading you stuff normally, but I have to say that you are pursuing a completely baseless point of opinion here.

What in the fuck is wrong with you? Do I see you adopting children, left, right and centre? Thank fuck Marsupialized is here to save the third world with his generous heart. He doesn't give a shit about all the work that looking after adopted children might entail - he is one selfless motherfucker!
You're sat there going the fuck on about how people who want kids but aren't physically able to are disgusting people if they don't adopt because they leave more unfortunate, ready-existing children parentless. But what the fuck are you doing about it?Marsupialized wrote:Man, the other day I sat down at the computer and I see the wife was looking at pages about adopting a kid

Oh, you're not doing anything. Why don't you adopt your own child, if you want to set an example to people about how to have "souls"?
You are a fuckwit.
I don't want a fucking kid that's why you idiot.
I am not out spending thousands of dollars trying to have one when there are thousands of children in the very city I live in who need a home.
I cannot believe someone could actually somehow in their head defend people doing that. Because it's too much 'work' to raise an adopted kid. What a load of yuppie bullshit. I cannot think of anything more selfish and heartless.
I think of all my friends who were adopted and thank goodness that their parents were not the types of fucking yuppie assholes who think it would be below them to take in a child who needed a family and who weren't so fucking self centered and egotistical that they can't develop a bond with a child unless it's biologically from their superior yuppie genes.
If I did want a kid, I would adopt one I wouldn't have one.
But I don't want one, so I don't.
I have cats, that I adopted.
Sometimes you come out with the craziest, most presumptious shit. No one said any of the above. Some people (me included) worry that they wouldn't be able to bond with an adopted child full stop. It has nothing to do with yuppie genes. It has to do with some weird instinct that places creation of human life above all other endeavours a person can undertake. I'm not a religious man but surely that's what the point of all this really is? If you have a chance to do that and you consider the endeavour as highly as I do, then why not?
It's not about the act of bringing up a child, any child, it's about the act of creating a life yourself.

This yuppie thing doesn't apply here. Most of western Europe offers fertility treatment through a nationalised health care system. The system isn't as retarded as to make people pay for it.
Of course adopting a child is a great thing to do - if you feel that you can do it. It's not particularly difficult to understand that people might have reservations about adopting a child because they haven't been with it since birth, because they didn't sire it themselves. Whether these sentiments are noble is open for discussion - but they certainly exist for many people, and form part of a whole complex psychology of the mind that can't just be dismissed out of hand as laziness or selfishness. Unless you're a fuckwit of course, who prefers to couch a complex ethical debate in black and white absolutist terms.

So it's noble for these people to go in and spend thousands upon thousands of dollars trying to create a child of their own when there are countless children available for adoption already?
Just scrambling, doing everything they possibly can to not have to take in one of those filthy 'damaged' low class poor children...
It's not selfish and heartless for them to pretend these needy children do not exist and push on trying with all their might to make a new one of their own in a laboratory?
This is somehow an acceptable act to you people? Ok, fine....we have very different views of the world and human beings, that's all.

Which is exactly my point--I'd rather clean the litter box 5,000 times than change one diaper.
j_harvey wrote:Where do you shop for your Cat's food and litter? I hope it's somewhere cooler than Target.
Ah, you must think my earlier shots at Target and Wal-Mart were based on me thinking they were "uncool" or beneath me somehow--no, the reason I avoid such places is to at least try not to support notorious "All-American" big box stores that sell sweatshop-made crap from China or Indonesia, and treat their U.S. workers like shit. While the local Jewel or Tony's Foods are themselves chain supermarkets, at least they are union shops.
I realize no one can do this 100% of the time.
I do admit to shopping at Costco, however.

In 19th Century Europe maybe, but I doubt if Lineage is that important to anyone other that those with a lineage to protect, nowadays.

118Genetic information is useful to have. It would be nice, for example, to know that the little girl you have adopted comes from a line in which the women are prone to breast cancer.
