Straight men are just as steadfast in their attempts for no-strings sex, save for the unattractive ones. And as for clumsy nothing could be further than the truth. Breeders fall all over themselves trying to be subtle in their desire to bed an attractive woman, with two gay men there are no pretenses.

I've emphasized the operative words. I was talking about me in a gay club full of drunk, gay men. "Persistent" and "clumsy" are 100% accurate. To another gay guy, "You're hot. Let's go somewhere" is wonderfully direct. To a straight guy fending a gay guy off for the 10th time, it's clumsy.

Believe me, it'd be nice if hetero hook-ups were that straightforward. Like Alex, I had flashes of jealousy for my gay buddy, who was getting laid left and right and with ease.

My friend Lionel is gay and he loves bringing his straight friends to this one particular gay bar for some reason. We used to hang out a lot, and he'd always bring me and my friends along, and since he was tight with the guys that ran the place, we could have a few drinks. MUCH MUCH cleaner than any straight bar and way more entertaining. I've been to a drag show with him, and it was fucking rad. Gay dudes are fucking cool people, as long as they don't make their "gayness" their total personality.

I've never been to a gay bar (too young) but instinct tells me that it would be no different from any other bar.

It used to be an affirmed tactic of mine when I lived in Bournemouth, which has a sizeable gay presence. If you go out with a big group of people and you are doing well with a female in the first couple of bars, ask her if she wants to split and go to a gay bar. Let the others disappear to the straight clubs. If she comes with you to the gay bar, she is going to be focused on you for the rest of the night. It's not like she's going to be fending off other guys there is it?

The advantages of this are -

* People always dance in gay bars.
* The bouncers are always much nicer.
* Everyone will talk to you, regardless of who you are.
* There will probably not be any fights or anything like that.

So you got a girl's attention for the whole night and you have a great time. Seriously, how could it go wrong? There's a bar there and you can dance your ass off all night. Perfect!

Yes, tommydski, this is an excellent idea. How could it go wrong? I mean, it's not like she will be surrounded by hordes of sissies in no time, chatting amusedly and taking complements about her gorgeous footwear and fabulous jewelry "oh my god, thank you" while you stare into your drink for the rest of the night trying to avoid the craving look of the fat guy with the receding hairline on the other side of the bar.

No really, an excellent idea.

Really. Goddamnit.

I went to a gay club in La Scala in London once. It was a leaving do for my friend's brother who had been working at Saddler's Wells theatre. I don't think many of us were gay, but I suppose a couple of James's work colleagues were, or we'd just gone there for the laid bakc atmosphere.
Anyway, there are a number of events which stick in my mind.

1. I saw a guy with a 'Daredevil' t-shirt, like a red shirt with the 'DD' motif on the front, and I hadn't ever seen one before and thought it was really cool, so I asked the guy where he got it from, and he told me that he'd got it in a comic shop in London, but went to great lengths to tell me that his boyfriend had taken it in, because he wasn't 'fat, like most comic-book fans'.

2. Matt Lucas was there. I had met him a couple of times in Edinburgh, and had told him that I was a big fan of his work. This was well before 'Little Britain', and he was very pleasant and approachable. I was quite into the idea of writing comedy at the time, so I basically talked his ear off for about an hour, much to the amusement of my friends, and presumably his friends, who all thought that some bumming was in the offing.

3. My friend's friend picked this night to come out to everyone present, which was a bit of a shock to his girlfriend. In a touching display of concern, all of his friends said 'yeah we pretty much thought Bob was gay. Didn't you ever think that?'

Apart from the fact that if you drop your hat, you must kick it all the way to the door.

it's very different. different type of culture thrives there. it would be different first and foremost for the fact that you may be hit on by other guys. that is a very odd experience for a straight guy.
