loathsome slobs whining about not being able to get dates /laid

I don't think I was whining...

I don't believe that I will ever have children. But somewhere in the back of my mind it seems like some dim possibility.

But I'm no spring chicken, as they say. So, no, I don't believe I will be contributing to the gene pool. The world, somehow, will press on.

I think you're way wrong on that. Humans favor progeny. It's got nothing to do with European royal families, as Marsupialized has proved. In almost every case, adoption is a fallback option. I can only speak for myself, but if the main motivation for me starting a family is to keep the line going, then it must be very deeply seated in my psychology because I'm most certainly not aware of it.

I do plan on having kids at some time in the near future.

The thought terrifies me

it terrifies me because I will have to stop thinking about me first. I will no doubt start thinking about someone I don't even know yet first.

Question: has anyone ever met anyone who doesn't like their kid?
My girlfriend has a few nephews/nieces and one of them is a right little cunt. His brothers cute and funny but he's the fucking devil. Yet his parents (who are nice people) think the sun shines out of his arse. Is it possible to dislike your own child?

I think new borns are ugly but they get cute as after about a year.
With other peoples kids I am not interested at all before that but after they are fun and they like me cause I can juggle.

If I couldn't have kids for biological reasons I would go the science route rather than adopt. I didn't realise there was such a controversy about that. Why would I want to go through the trouble of raising someone else's spawn? (unless I knew the parents that is - and liked them)

On saying that - Rick has a point about fertility treatment being on the NHS. It probably shouldn't be - certainly given the impending issues of overpopulation etc just like sex change operations shouldn't be (in my humble opine). Certainly alternative therapies shouldn't be - as they are now ( I'm getting sidetracked - I might start a thread about that one)

However, if I needed/wanted I would use the service the NHS provide - so there.

Another question: people in this country can be banned from owning a dog if they don't treat it right. Should we not be able to ban neglectful/abusive/morons from siring extra humans if they prove themselves to irresponsible in the upbringing of a first one?

I withhold my opinion partly because I start swimming in murky mind waters when I consider it.

Some friends visited my folks and myself on Sunday with their two daughters, who are four years old and a couple of months old. My mother practically ran to the car as it came into the driveway, virtually grabbed the newborn all wrapped up in her shawl after a couple of brief greetings, and walked carefully inside with an expression that I wish I had photographed: love, joy, childlike excitement, near delirium.

A minute later, everyone settled in the living room, my mother briefly stopped cooing over little Devyani, and looked to me with burning eyes: "Mark, you've cheated me!"

I might have to offer a quiet reward to my siblings as prize for the first to have child.

Having watched the children of a few friends grow up, I am a little broody.

I guess I lost all punk credibility back in the day when I took my then 6 year old son to see The Dicks, D.O.A., Butthole Surfers, Cro-Mags, Black Flag, virtually all the Chicago punk bands from that era, etc. etc.

Oh, the shame.

For the record, my now 27 year old son has turned out just fine, he's smart as hell and doing well. I'm very proud of him.
