aw man, you didn’t have to say that
I listened to SOD for the first time in decades recently. I found it hard to not picture Tony Soprano on vocals. The Archie Bunker-esque lyrics were a little hard to swallow. Other than that, it rocked.seby wrote: Thu Nov 10, 2022 1:49 amSOD? Suicidals?Dave N. wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 2:21 pm I think Four Of A Kind by D.R.I. is a jam. I come back to it every so often, and it always does me right. It’s the only album I like from them besides Dealing With It. There’s just something about it, like they tried to take themselves seriously and in a different direction. I don’t recall the album being very well-received. “Manifest Destiny” is so good. I’ve tried to listen to their other “crossover” albums, and they all blow.
How Will I Laugh Tomorrow is 10/10. Give it a whirl. They are right over into thrash by then, but still!Dave N. wrote: Thu Nov 10, 2022 12:03 pmI listened to SOD for the first time in decades recently. As for Suicidal, I’ve only heard the s/t record. I still like it!
Green Day was really something special in the skatepunk era. I hated all that stuff like nothing else, except for Green Day. They just got songs, you know? "Basket Case", "When I Come Around", "Welcome to Paradise", they all still got it - just listened and was almost surprised myself.losthighway wrote: Sun Feb 27, 2022 7:54 pmI feel you on this one. I'd like to think I'm far too mature, discerning and saavy to geek out on Dookie, but there are some real tunes on there. It's easier to appreciate objectively when you're listening to the non-hit tunes which are just as good, "Sassafrass Roots", "She" etc. Also re: overproduced sounds thread, this is around the peak of engineering the most massive sounding pop punk album before the line is crossed into synthetic crap.gonzochicago wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 12:33 am i'm amazed at how much i still like "dookie" by green day. total jams.
But NOT better than Crimpshrine, FILTH, BLATZ, or Fifteenlosthighway wrote: Sat Mar 25, 2023 6:33 pm The prime era of Green Day has aged so much better than 95% of their scene contemporaries. Better than Guttermouth, Lagwagon, Screeching Weasel, or Rancid.
And what a fucking rhythm section!
