The prime era of Green Day has aged so much better than 95% of their scene contemporaries. Better than Guttermouth, Lagwagon, Screeching Weasel, or Rancid.
And what a fucking rhythm section!
But NOT better than Crimpshrine, FILTH, BLATZ, or Fifteen

this is not correct.
Green Day is by far the best band that was ever on Lookout. The first record & EP is perfect - second album you could see what they were trying to get to and then on Dookie it's basically the perfection of that sound. I support Green Day up to and including Nirmod. this is not a guilty pleasure - this is something i enjoy and why would you care what anyone else thought of it.
Now the question is what is the 2nd best band on Lookout.
Avail?

The Donnas on Lookout are better than Green Day and Avail put together and multiplied by five.

Shoot, just Robertson's guitar break on "Doin' Donuts" is better than all of that nonsense.
Past that, you get to Dookie and a producer is telling Tre he needs to be better drummer.
Throw that record out the window...

And Danchehall Crashers are better than any of that...

Crimpshrine was magical. Never has a band been simultaneously so good and so bad at playing music to such sublime heights.

Came to skate thrash/crossover after I already knew grindcore, so maybe with some more objectivity than other folks.
DRI kind of sucks. The vocals are definitely in the running for the worst in the world. Few of the riffs are any good. Cryptic Slaughter, their Japanese clones Roserose, The Accüsed and even the massively overrated Septic Death were all better. The only ones I'd miss if they had never existed would probably be the Accüsed.
Dire Straits are good. No shame.
Hard to compete with any of you pop punk lovers here as far as guilt, but I will say. I saw Life Of Agony recently and they were great. Really fucking good. Those are good songs.

this is the truth, couldn't have said it any better. the songs touch me on so many levels.
@fm AkosinskiI said nothin' against Lookout era Green Day. Just that Crimpshrine, Filth and Blatz are my favourites off that label.

Always great live, the records never did a thing for me.
Lookout did try branching out towards the end and put out that Pretty Girls Make Graves album I liked at the time, so maybe that. The Ted Leo stuff.. same deal. All the second rate Green Days and Op Ivys.. no thanks.

I haven’t listened to Monsula in ages, but I used to like them a lot. Bill was/is a great bass player. There’s the early Neurosis stuff. Plaid Retina was good, if you could tolerate the Geddy Lee vocals.
My friend/bandmate Elena was on Lookout for a bit (The Smears). I’ve never really asked her about it.
