You should be able to find this in good independent record stores throughout these fair and scepter'd isles - failing that there's one with an ebay store where I picked up a copy a while ago. I'd thoroughly recommend it - truly excellent performances and it hangs together really well as a whole. Tortoise seem to come in for a fair bit of flak these days but I think Salt The Skies is one of the standouts.

The louisville one has already been shot and is scheduled to be released before the Portland one (I guess they are still waiting for the Portland house to be destroyed). A friend of mine curated it, he is a member of the fine band Lucky Pineapple, who are also featured on the DVD along with The Lords, Mr. Oldham, Shipping News, Parlour, and like 7 others. I am looking forward to it.

The other two are really good, but each have their moments of brilliance and boredom. The Tortoise performance is stellar! Wilco not so much. Q and not U... stellar!

almost, but not quite. I cannot verify those that did show up, but I can verify those that did not:

While Dead Child did perform, they did so without their main man Pajo, cause he never showed up.

I can only imagine what a pain in the dick it would be track 13 bands in one day. maybe bob weston can shed some light on that?

word was that he had a family emergency. I'm looking forward to hearing DC - judging from the rest of the members' other projects (shipping news, for carnation, sapat, verktum, etc. etc.) it has great potential.

I think this thing is slated for end of 06 release. Is that correct?

As for the 2 out already, I liked the Chicago one better, but they are both worth having - it's just such a great concept/setting. Supposedly they'll be going to Iceland as well. Wonder who they'd pull in for that one.

Burn to Shine Sneinton (shitty suburb of Nottingham, UK for those who want to know) should definately be considered for a future site!

burn to shine-chicago is worth picking up

the shellac, tortoise, lonesome organist and wilco (play that guitar, nels cline!) performances were all very good...the other bands: maybe not so much. I was surprised by the choices...seemed a little *cough* lame considering the bands that Shellac usually tour with.

I think the curation represented Chicago really well. Not all favorites of mine, but all excellent musicians doing a wide variety of things, not simply honoring a particular "sound".
That's what makes this city's rawk so great. For me, anyway.
