Oh man! I've been looking for one of those (in good condition) for YEARS.
Have you ever used one? They're not what one would describe as 'average' sounding...well the clean sounds are pretty standard (pretty good actually, particularly with the two channels blended) but the distortion! Ouch!
Really fucking harsh. Love it or hate it.
My young self hated it.

i remember once rehearsed with one of those marshall mg heads, the new ones. the sound was so ridiculously shrill that i had to turn the tone down in my tele. yeah, the treble in the amp was at minimun.

Yes. And I loved it. I mean, it's not an amp that I'd use all the time...but I know that I'd use it all the time for tracking distorted guitars. Like I said though...I think that they're pretty rare. Although I haven't actively been looking for one, I haven't seen one in years.

They come up in the UK sometimes. Usually around £200-£300. Pretty expensive for a weird sounding 30 watt solid stater! I guess it's because of the Marshall badge.

Don't laugh...
...a well-tweaked Crate amp sits in my room right now. I can get some very decent sounds. A friend of mine recorded a few tracks on his band's demo when a heavy distortion sound was needed with a 1x12 Crate. Sounded really good.

That Marshall looks fantastic. I have to say I've really liked a lot of solid state amps from BEFORE they started trying to make them sound like tube amps all the time. Just a totally straightforward amplifier with no diodes in there to clip things, no CMOS or modelling, just the straight up minimum circuit you need to louden the signal with transistors can really have a VOICE...much like a simple tube amp, but of course sounding much different. One of my favorite ever bass amps for recording was a really lame "Jordan" combo that probably put out about 20 watts with really basic transistor circuitry. It had a really great woof to it. In fairness it had a vented cab with a Jensen C15N, which for me is -- tube or solid state -- probably the best bass guitar sound style cab you can get (think portaflex). I've also had a couple old solid state silvertones that sound amazing for certain things.

I love H||H amps. The old silver fronted PA head sounds particularly nasty, if that's your bag.The VS, IC and Studio series all sound great and react really well to pedals. They're pretty sterile and direct sounding.
I've been doing some experimenting with my Digitech RDS4000 delay/looper going into an Akai Headrush E2 set to tape delay mode. The Headrush (in tape mode) has 5 different outputs.
I've been connecting 4 amps to it (Hiwatt Lead 100 into 2x12, H||H VS100 head into 2x12, H||H Studio-100 2x12 combo and an H||H Studio-30 1x10 combo). I set up a simple looped pattern on the RDS4000 then gradually adjust the delay time on the Headrush, thus creating Steve Reich-esque phasing pieces in quadraphonic sound. Hypnotic.
