I've got a 1965 YBA-1 (with the tube rectifier)
and a 1969(71?) YBA-2A

The YBA-2A is a fun little amp, but it sounds really muddy, and doesn't distort well at all. I bought it for $100 and considered it an investment for ebay. Throwing a pedal in front of it improves it a bit, I may just get it serviced, I haven't given it a good once over, but I did try new tubes, to no effect.

The YBA-1 ha problems, but is probably one of the cleanest amps I've ever played. the guitar just shines through, but its almost unbearably bright. This amp though has seen a soldering iron on more than one occasion, and I had to return the preamp to stock just to get rid of this weird metallic squeel at high volumes.

Other YBA-1As I've played are top notch marshall contenders.

Cabs I've got a YT-15 (2x15") cab that I bought for $75 and it flat out slays. Love the sound of this cab.

As well I've got a traynor solid state power amp YPM-250, and two traynor wedge monitors that I bought for $75 (with a free Vibrotech 120 thrown in)

the amps when you can find them, are usually always worth it for the money. However they're going up in price.. vintage rock stores in canada are hip to them and they're fetching ~$500.

I play my Sovtek Mig 50 over the traynors though, any day of the week.

Yba-1 with a traynor bass cabinet model yt-15 I love the way my guitar sounds through it but recently I started a new band and distorted bass sounds so evil through it, it's amazing.

I tried out one of the old sealed back YGM-3's with a Tube driver pedal and was able to get some really thick Tony Iommi raunch from it. --I think it had the original Marsland or CTS speaker in it.

Another guy that I knew played a 50's Les Paul through the same model/era YGM-3 that he had retrofitted with a pre- Rola Celestion greenback and was able to nail Greg Allman's tone with it. --Not just come close to his tone, get it dead on.

I'm prbably going to look for one at some point because they make great practice/recording amps, and would make a good live amp provided you're playing with a fairly restrained drummer.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Traynor revised the amp in the mid 70's. The ones that I've seen on eBay have a 6v6 output section and an open backed cabinet. I have no idea if the preamp/tonestack was changed in the process.

Did it barf? I made a YBA-3 barf one time. Well, it was specifically one of the capacitors that barfed, not the whole amp or anything. It barfed hot oil into the inside of amp, and made smoke. It was pretty awesome.

aside from the amp crapping out, that can be a satisfying feeling.
