I’m looking for an inexpensive (or reasonable) distortion pedal that actually gives you “too much” distortion if you want it. I have used a Boss HM-2 for years, but there’s got to be something with way more distortion saturation these days. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Bob Mould always loved the MXR distortion pedal. I haven't futzed with one enough to tell you if it can drown the thing in distortion set on high. Those are much cheaper at least.

Thank you! I will look into both of those.

How about the MXR 5150 or the Friedman BE-OD? Despite both having the word overdrive in them, there's a lot of gain on tap. Not that cheap, both are around $140-150 used.

Do you have more than one fuzz/dist pedal? Try stacking them, experiment with the order. Sometimes you discover something useful. And without having to buy another device.

I had someone make me a copy of the DAM Meathead.
It's definitely either off or "very very on". Mine's quite a bit noisier than the original, but it's great for thick walls of distortion without being too fuzzy.
Fuzzdog has a "Thug Fuzz" kit that's apparently the same thing.

I love that circuit. super small. I used to build them into the same box with a Red Llama clone and it was all I used for years. did it all.

Thanks for the various options folks. I will scope out all of these.

It's funny you mention that, I was actually going to experiment with multiple pedals I own before I bought anything new. I have an overdrive, and another distortion pedal I can plug into my HM-2. Thanks!

Anyone have any experience with the Blue Hummingbird microphones? I feel like I always see them on sale and I've been looking for a SDC that I could use on toms. They say they can handle high SPL, I just haven't taken the leap to give them a try.
