^ That's an amusing post re: Kraftwerk.

Must be something about Kraftwerk. Both of my daughters caught on to the hook to "The Robots" when they were around that age, too. Kids are funny that way.

The difference is that the C64 disk drive has almost as much computer in it as the main machine. Other 8 bit computer manufacturers managed to build disk drive controllers with more modest hardware requirements, but for all that... like I say, the C64 disk drive is AMAZINGLY slow at reading disks, even by the standards of the time. It's quite remarkable.
It was faster than the cassette drive (Datasette). I had both.

I feel like I've probably brought too much c64 to the cool shit thread but despite its flaws (and it has a few, including a propensity to blow itself up), the c64 is still cool shit 40 years on. And I actually do have a c64 set up here and I use that fucker in the nowadays.

It is wild how active the c64 scene is today. There is new stuff coming out for it all the time.

Mario on the c64

Sonic on the c64

Some dude on Youtube has actually been doing a monthly roundup of new releases. For a 40 year old computer.

I have a workplace injury that gives me pain in my arm, hand and fingers. Was thinking maybe I wouldn't be able to play the piano (or other instruments).

Well LOL @ that:

The Spanish far-right party Vox memed themselves during the election of 2019 by tweeting this dorky picture - cropped from the original, but you get the point.

Pay attention to the little fellow on the bottom right. Some random thing they cribbed off the net then became a gay mascot and named Gaysper.

Just beautiful.

There's something comforting about this:
