DarkTowel, I can see why you couldnt like descreet charm. All of his Bunel's movies are about hating the upper class (and contain the ingredients for a perfect martini, which he was obsessed with). It was a pretty slow movie and didnt really go anywhere, i just loved the way it was shot/directed.

Anyway, tmidgett, I will deffinatly be looking for those movies. I've compiled a little list for myself out of all the suggestion you guys have given me. Thanks alot.

Question: Are any of you into horrendously BAD movies? I have a friend who is an absolute movie dictionary and one of the things he collects is old, less that 1000 dollar budget, obscure movies. Blood Freak being one of the more populer ones. A Hard Way To Die is probably the worse dubbing ever, its hilarious.

Anyway, back to good movies. Earlier someone mentioned The City Of Lost Children, that movie is great! Going with my affinity for surreal (sci-fi at times) flicks, this was deffinatly... satisfying?

Has anyone seen 7th Seal (Ingmar Burgman)? This is possibly the single greatest movie ever. Right up there with seven samurai, truely amazing movie. Burgman was famous for using miles and miles of film, he was an absolute perfectionist. This deffinatly isnt a party movie, watch it by yourself... in the dark... without food.

Other good Burgman movies are Wild Strawberries, Brink of Life, and Winter Light (which i havent seen, but have been recomended to me)

And Amelie wasnt that bad, if you watch it with the right people. I liked the colors in that movie alot, and the Audrey Tautou portrayed perfect innocence. But alas, its more of a kid's movie (excluding the orgasm scenes). I used to watch Run Lola Run alot...

Edit: Mattw, I wasnt saying GhostWorld is a bad movie, I was just dissapointed in seeing something like that in the "New Release" section at blockbuster.

Everybody seems to be hating 'Discreet Charm' but not mentioning any other Bunuel films. I really like his style, although I admit he has his problems. 'L'age D'or' was quite good, as was 'Obscure Object Of Desire'. 'Phantom Of Liberty', 'Diary Of A Chambermaid' and 'Belle Du Jour' are pretty darn good, too.

Anybody like earlier Peter Greenaway?

I've watched The Thin Red Line many times now. I'm not a fan of all the cameos - esp. John Travolta and George Clooney - but most of the movie is breathtaking, & it's certainly one of my favorite movies ever. Definitely my favorite of the last ten years. James Cavaziel saying to Sean Penn "I can take whatever you dish out; I am twice the man you are" is one of my favorite moments ever in a movie. It's a surprise when it comes, and the silence that follows is perfect.

I watched about ten minutes of Buffalo 66 the other night, and loved it. Has anyone seen The Brown Bunny? I want to see The Brown Bunny, if only for Chloe Sevigny blow job scene. The plot summary from imdb.com makes it sound... well:

"It's the story of one man's tragic loss of the love of his life. He is Bud Clay. And he races motorcycles. He rides in the 250cc Formula II class of road racing. Round and round he goes, repeating laps over and over until the race is over. The story begins with Bud racing in New Hampshire. Bud's next race is in California in five Days. And so his journey begins across America. And everyday Bud is haunted by the same memories of the last time he saw his true love. Bud will do anything to make those memories disappear. And every day he tries to find a new love. Making outrageous requests of women to come with him on his trip and then leaving them behind after they've agreed. He can't replace Daisy, the only girl he's ever loved and the only girl he will ever love. But every day he tries."
