The people of Mexican descent I know here at work talk about themselves way worse than anything Mandroid said.

Liz/Noise&Light seems like she feels pretty strong about it. Reading it as I just did I must admit I feel pretty strong about it as well, even though I feel like I know Amanda pretty okay-enough and don't think of her as racist, (those comments about Asians, though...wow).

It's terribly wrong to discount how a person feels. If anyone of a Hispanic origin takes offense at what she posted, even if the statement is perceived by the "offender" as benign, then perhaps instead of dictating to the insulted party how they are false, wrong, or being too sensitive, maybe one should step out of their own comfort zone and at least try to be empathetic.

I'm not trying to be a smart-ass here, well, maybe just a little, but it must really be fabulous to be white. Seriously.

I miss all the good threads around here.

But acknowledging that doesn't give these people a chance to feel superior to someone else, to stick their nose in the air and point at them and say 'You make me sick with your lack of cultural sensitivity'

To make such a HUGE deal out of some tiny flippant remark is absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Everyone who has been looks like a complete and utter fool.

The bolded part is important. Same goes for use of the 'N' word.

I, for one, don't feel superior in any way to Mandroid 'cos she fucked up but everyone here is well within their rights to give their opinion.
