Starting a new gig on Monday, designing electronic modules at one of the big three automotive manufacturers. Took me over a year of on-and-off looking to land this role. I applied to over 100 positions, had about 20 callbacks, maybe 5 actual interviews with hiring managers.
I agree, that's awesome! Congrats!
Will you have to deal with "functional safety" at all?
Probably, since there's some ADAS stuff involved. I've got enough FuSa experience to at least have it in the back of my mind when I'm drafting a circuit, so once you get in that mindset, it's not a big deal. Just a bunch of documentation.
That's a good way to look at it. So many people freak out when they hear "functional safety" like it's so difficult but it's not (it has more or less been my life at UL for the past 20 years, though I ducked out of the automotive space about 5 years ago).

The company I just left (last day was today) is just starting UL 1973 cert for its BMS, and I was in the process of working on the pin-level FMEA for my portion of the design. Actually glad to be walking away from that, ngl.

I finally got a job offer (therapy in the county jail with male inmates who are either returning to society or being sentenced to prison), signed the acceptance letter, and now a nice private clinic that I'd rather work for has responded to a resume I sent like 2 months ago... I told them I am about to start another job but since it's 4 days a week, I could do some per diem/ fee for service sessions on my time off, and they are still interested in interviewing me, so I do that online tomorrow. I don't care where I work right now as my unemployment ran out in April, and as long as I can get my foot in the door at the private clinic then if the other job sucks I'll have something to bail to.

Great news! And it's good to have options in your back pocket.
I don't start up again until August 4th so other than getting some chores out of the way, I'm trying to enjoy the free time which is hard to do when you don't have work lined up. I went swimming yesterday and it won't be the last time

That's great that you can explore both and not have to immediately choose.
Working 4 days a week rules. I was on 4 10's for the last several years up to the fall of 24 and I loved it - you still feel like those 3 days fly by though, and not everyone loves a 10 hour day, but I think it's great.

Well the interview got off to a rough start because the owner and lead clinician didn't show up so I just sat in a virtual room for an hour. Couldn't get an email reply and couldn't get through to her at the office. Finally got an email at 4 that she had to pick up her kids or something and to reschedule the interview for 5, so we did and I fuckin' crushed it! She said she wants me on the team one way or another. I am still bummed that I didn't know about this job before accepting the other one, but it seems like she is open for me whenever I am ready, and the plan is to do the jail job for a week or two and then get in touch with her, and if I'm ready then I can start taking some combination of evening telehealth and/or Friday or Saturday in-person clients. Despite the initial chaos it seems like the kind of place I want to work and I will be able to make it work with my current schedule. If the jail job ends up sucking then I won't feel trapped. So yeah!
