i decided this was the case after seeing _starship troopers_, which is similar in that it is nominally 'bad' (wooden acting, lame dialogue, etc.) but, like _showgirls_, looks amazing, is well-edited, and is absolutely, completely entertaining.
There was an article in the Stooges issue of Arthur magazine that talked about the hidden genius in Starship Troopers, a movie that seems to have very little in common with the book it was adapted from.

everyone MUST go to ebay and get "drunken wu-tang" now. it's an kung fu movie but so much more. they fight the devil, a robot called "the watermelon monster", a guy in a penis costume, and a bong smoking grandmother. also at one point a corpse comes back to life to grab a girls ass. classic

Breaker Breaker starring Chuck Norris.
How can you beat a premise combining truck driving ala "Convoy" and kung fu. You just can't.
As a bonus it has one of the coolest soundtracks ever, sort of a C.W. McCall/Red Sovine meets dueling banjos as interpreted by Ry Cooders brother.

So bad it's good?
#1 is (any) of the ILSA movies
(she wolf of the ss, harem keeper of the oil sheiks, etc)
Final Destination 2 was pretty funny. If you don't like the movie, you should like the gore, it's pretty bloody.
and, of course,
ALL of the Planet of the Apes. I can watch those over and over.
