I understand why you don't think what you said about homosexuals was offensive, but I think it was. I guess there's room to disagree. I appreciate the apology, but have you apologized to Rachael? I'm a pretty forgiving person by nature... I don't know.
My take on blaming it on being drunk: part of being sorry about something is a commitment not to do it again. If you transfer the responsibility from the action itself to being drunk, your commitment has to be to never get drunk again. Maybe I could word this sentiment better, but maybe you get the point.
