Scanlon is indeed great.

Mario Lalli from Fatso Jetson is a great guitarist. I like everything about his playing.

I'm gonna add:

Malcolm Young (I still like Angus but Malcolm is the man.)
Zoot Horn Rollo (along with John French, Beefheart's right-hand man, no matter how much Beefheart denigrated his immortal contributions - one of the great slide players, too, if only for "Big Eyed Beans From Venus"...oh my oh my.)

I have no idea why Caspar Brotzmann isn't held in way, way higher regard.
Find the track 'Schlaf' off his record 'Koksofen' this man tortures the guitar, strangles it, just wails on it....it seriously sounds to me like the guitar is screaming for it's life.

Maybe in the 80's but you rarely hear him mentioned positively outside of the "mainsteam" guitar scene.
